Our asbestos claims team were instructed on behalf of Mr M who was diagnosed with mesothelioma. He worked for Leyland Construction Company Limited between 1949 and 1973.

Mr M undertook his qualifications to become a fully qualified bricklayer and attended night school whilst also working. He then qualified as a bricklayer and worked his way up to become a foreman.

He worked largely on a contract to build houses on Woodside Park in North Finchley, N12. The majority of the houses that were built also had smaller outhouses which were built using corrugated asbestos sheets for the roof. These came in 8x4 or 6x4 sheets and Mr M would measure them up and then cut them to size, using an electric saw. Once the sheets were cut to size, he would drill holes in them for the screws using an electric drill. He then hammered screws and asbestos nails in.

Sadly Mr M passed away, not long after instructing us, and the mesothelioma claim was therefore pursued by his son.

We concluded the case within 10 months from the date that we were originally instructed by Mr M and during the course of the claim we also secured an interim payment for the son.

The case settled for £130,000 without the need to issue Court proceedings.
