She has managed many multi-million pound compensation awards on behalf of clients, as well as managing the property and finances of clients with mental health challenges, neurodiverse clients, and elderly clients with neurodegenerative conditions such as dementia. Sue’s view is that her work has always been much more about “people” than the law, supporting clients and their families, training and supporting colleagues, and finding practical solutions to challenges.
Sue is a passionate advocate for people who are vulnerable or have disabilities, and through her work she is committed to improving their quality of life by arranging care, housing, therapies and equipment. Often, determining whether an individual has capacity to make a particular decision is challenging and Sue has acted in many borderline cases, developing a reputation for her attention to detail and ability to obtain robust reliable evidence about mental capacity in the most difficult cases.
Sue is very experienced in applying the principles of the Mental Capacity Act when making decisions on behalf of client who lack capacity and she does not shy away from decision-making. She regards herself as accountable for the decisions that she makes on behalf of clients and is always willing to explain her decisions to clients, families and the Court of protection.
Sue is Chair of Trustees of “Headway Portsmouth and South East Hampshire”, a charity that supports adults with brain injuries and their families, a role that she has held for nearly 20 years.
Sue’s daughter is neurodivergent, which gives her an unrivalled insight into some of the challenges that her clients and family face on a day-to-day basis.
