Sean's Case - Deputyship
Sean* is a young adult who suffered clinical negligence at birth. His injuries resulted in mixed dyskinetic cerebral palsy with severe learning difficulties and epilepsy.
A case was brought against the health authority and an award of just over £2 million was obtained. Ruth Meyer is the professional deputy who works closely with the family to ensure Sean’s best interests are met.
A property was purchased and fully adapted with separate carers’ accommodation. Sean initially received all of his care and therapy at his school but left at the age of 19 and since then we have made a claim for continuing healthcare funding. This claim was successful due to Sean’s complex needs. It means that his care is now provided in his own home and paid for by the NHS.
Continuing healthcare claims can be complex and lengthy but need to be pursued in appropriate cases as is shown with this case.

The service was personal, professional and considered. I was treated so kindly and in the end I knew that not only had I found the right organisation but also the right person.
