£145,000 fatal lung cancer compensation claim settled for widow of pipe fitter
Our asbestos claims team were instructed by Mr O, a pipe fitter who had been diagnosed with lung cancer during his lifetime. Sadly, Mr O passed away very suddenly, before he could provide us with a witness statement that gave evidence of his asbestos exposure.
Despite Mr O’s death, our asbestos claims team continued with the claim on behalf of his widow, Mrs O. Initial information from Mrs O and the wider family suggested that Mr O had worked as a pipe fitter all over North West England and North Wales, but predominantly in the Manchester and Nottingham areas for companies John Hughes and Co. (Heating) Ltd and F.G. Skerritt Limited.
Although the family felt that Mr O would have been exposed to asbestos during these employments, they were unable to pinpoint specific jobs that Mr O worked on for each company or give information as to how, exactly, Mr O worked with asbestos.
Our asbestos claims team carried out extensive investigations into both companies, including witness appeals in the Manchester and Nottingham areas. They managed to trace witnesses who could provide information about Mr O’s likely asbestos exposure with his former employers. This involved exposure to asbestos from removing asbestos pipe lagging and from working near laggers who insulated pipes and boilers with asbestos lagging while Mr O worked in the same area.
Finally, in July 2014, after more than 4 years of extensive investigations and searches, our expert asbestos claims lawyers settled Mrs O’s complex asbestos related lung cancer compensation claim on behalf of her husband for £145,000.
The service was personal, professional and considered. I was treated so kindly and in the end I knew that not only had I found the right organisation but also the right person.
