Delay in treatment for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) claim

Sarah was 50 years old when she was referred to hospital by her GP with suspicion of a deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Investigations including venogram and ultrasound were performed and Sarah was given the all clear. She woke at home the next morning with an enormously swollen and painful leg. She was readmitted to hospital and extensive DVT diagnosed.

Sarah now suffers severe chronic venous insufficiency combined with a near complete occlusion of the iliac veins. She requires lifetime prescription of Warfarin and must wear a full length anti-embolism stocking every day. Sarah is at risk of developing venous ulcers in the future and her mobility has been affected.

It was Sarah’s case that the venogram had not examined the full length of her veins and that had it done her developing DVT would have been diagnosed and treated before she suffered extensive damage.

The claim was settled for £30,000 by our expert medical negligence claim solicitors, at no cost to Sarah.

The service was personal, professional and considered. I was treated so kindly and in the end I knew that not only had I found the right organisation but also the right person.
