A&E medical negligence claim - delay in treatment of ruptured achilles tendon

Mr S obtained £25,000 in compensation following the delay in diagnosis and treatment of a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Mr S suffered an injury to his left heel and attended the accident and emergency department at Great Western Hospital in Swindon. He was diagnosed with a sprain and advised to take analgesics and rest. He was also referred for physiotherapy.

It was not until some four months later that the rupture was diagnosed and he then underwent surgery to reconstruct the Achilles tendon.

It was our claim that had he been diagnosed at the time of the injury he would have been successfully treated without the need for surgery and not have had to suffer symptoms for an additional 8 months.

This medical negligence claim was funded by his legal expenses insurance and supportive reports were obtained from an Orthopaedic Consultant and an Accident & Emergency Consultant.

Proceedings were issued and served and thereafter the Defendants accepted the offer we put forward to settle the claim. The medical claim was settled for £25,000.
