Mr D was a very fit man who was able to cycle and weight-train up until a few months prior to his death. From December 2012 he became increasingly breathless and was eventually diagnosed with asbestos related lung cancer. Mrs D instructed our asbestos claims team following her husband's death in September 2013.

Mr D worked for the MOD between 1943 and 1988. They were his only employers. He was employed as a shipwright and then as a draughtsman at Portsmouth docks. His work involved going onboard ships in order to measure up before returning to the drawing office to draw up plans. He was frequently onboard ships when old asbestos was being removed. Therefore, whilst he never directly worked with asbestos, he worked in close proximity to it over a number of years.

Mr D’s widow instructed Boyes Turner in October 2013. Expert medical evidence was obtained which confirmed that Mr D’s lung cancer was caused by exposure to asbestos. We concluded this claim in November 2014 for the sum of £91,000.
