Boyes Turner’s specialist asbestos claims team were instructed by Mr W who developed diffuse pleural thickening as a result of exposure to asbestos during his employment as a joiner with Carillion Construction (Contracts) Limited (which was formerly known as George Wimpey & Co Limited) and during his employment in a supervisory capacity with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.

He was exposed to asbestos when he was employed by Carillion Construction (Contracts) Limited between 1964 and 1977 when he cut, drilled and handled asbestos sheets and when he drilled and handled asbestos fire doors.

Mr W was also was exposed to asbestos when he was employed by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council between 1977 and 1997 when he was on a site where houses were being demolished and refitted. The houses contained asbestos products such as asbestos soffits and asbestos ducting and he worked in proximity to other workers who were demolishing and ripping out the houses which created considerable amounts of dust.

A statement was obtained from  Mr W's former workmate to prove that the man had been exposed to asbestos during his employment.

Expert medical evidence was obtained and Court proceedings were commenced. The claim was concluded on a provisional damages basis in June 2015 in the sum of £40,790 inclusive.
