£150,000 compensation for widow after failings in care
We helped the widow of a man whose death was brought about by the result of negligence medical staff working for the North Devon Healthcare NHS Trust.
The man became unwell in 2004 and sought medical advice initially on a private basis and subsequently through the NHS.
Unfortunately there was a delay in diagnosing and treating his malignant otitis externa (a serious infection of the external auditory canal) and then a delay in diagnosing and treating a recurrence of the infection over the course of several months, leading ultimately to his death in the summer of 2005.
As a result of a series of failings in his care he suffered severe jaw pain, facial paralysis, hearing loss, impaired sight and difficulties with swallow and speech over several months leading to meningitis and his death.
His widow bought a claim on behalf of his estate and for dependency. Negligence was denied until 2 weeks before trial and the case was settled for £150,000.
The service was personal, professional and considered. I was treated so kindly and in the end I knew that not only had I found the right organisation but also the right person.
