£125,000 compensation for 74 year old's bile duct damage

Our specialist medical negligence solicitors acted on behalf of our client in relation to damage to her bile duct during a gall bladder operation when she was 74 years old.

The damage went undetected and as a result she suffered biliary peritonitis and sepsis leaving her very unwell. She had been discharged the day after her surgery and was readmitted ten days later as an emergency and had 13 pints of bile drained from her abdomen.

She underwent an operation for bile duct reconstruction and had a difficult and protracted recovery period. As a result of the prolonged period in hospital she was left in a weakened state and with urinary incontinence and a large incisional hernia. This affected all her day to day activities including her ongoing job.

The claim against the Royal Berkshire Hospital was originally denied and liability was only conceded after medical evidence was obtained.

Her medical negligence claim was settled for £125,000 in compensation.

The service was personal, professional and considered. I was treated so kindly and in the end I knew that not only had I found the right organisation but also the right person.
