Successful claim for man exposed to asbestos whilst employed by South Western Gas Board
Boyes Turner’s specialist asbestos lawyers were instructed in October 2008 by a man who had been diagnosed with pleural thickening.
Asbestos Exposure
He had been employed by South Western Gas Board as a gas fitter between the mid 1960s and the 1980s. During his employment he was exposed to asbestos whilst dismantling old water heaters and fitting, installing and repairing asbestos flues. He also regularly worked with asbestos rope which was used in joints. Asbestos would regularly be disturbed and he was not provided with any protection.
Pleural Thickening
As a result of his asbestos exposure, the former gas fitter was diagnosed with pleural thickening in February 2008. He instructed Boyes Turner to pursue a claim, which was successfully concluded against Wales & West Utilities Limited, the successors in title to the South Western Gas Board, in May 2010.
Compensation Claim
Boyes Turner's asbestos lawyers settled the claim on a provisional damages basis so that he may return for further compensation in the event of a future malignant asbestos-related diagnosis.
