£65k in compensation awarded to widower over two years after the death of his wife from mesothelioma
Boyes Turner's specialist mesothelioma lawyers were instructed by a man following the sad death of his wife from mesothelioma in February 2006. This was more than two years after her death.
She had possibly come into contact with asbestos when she was working for GEC assembling fans in the 1950’s. She had also been exposed to asbestos from washing her husband’s work clothes.
The mesothelioma claim was pursued against GEC and against two of her husband’s employers. The claim was concluded by one of her husband’s employers for £65k.
This was a very difficult case. The husband's exposure to asbestos was less than would normally be required to trigger liability for secondary exposure. Litigation risk was incorporated into the settlement so that approximately 50% to 60% of the realistic overall valuation of the claim, if wholly successful, was received.
