Mesothelioma Claim against Corus UK Limited

Our client, a living mesothelioma sufferer who emigrated to Australia in 1972, developed a cough and started suffering from pain and tightness in his chest at the beginning of 2009.

At first it was first thought to be a viral infection, but following further problems a chest x-ray showed fluid on the lung and in February he was told he may be suffering from a tumour in his right lung. Following a thoracoscopy he was diagnosed with mesothelioma later that month.

Whilst our specialist industrial disease lawyers were persuing his case, he was receiving chemotherapy treatment and was being prescribed the drug Thalidomide.

Initially, he could remember very little about his working history, only that he worked for the Lancashire Steel Manufacturing Company Limited in the 1950’s and 1960’s and for British Steel Corporation in the early 1970’s as a fitter and turner and he believed asbestos was used at the steelworks site on Cooper/Liverpool Road in Irlam, Manchester.

Our team managed to locate two witnesses who had worked at the same site as he had who were able to provide witness statements about the ways in which he would have been exposed to asbestos on site.

The case settled for £168k in compensation.
